ACI – United Airlines Flight 232

United Airlines Flight 232 was a scheduled flight operated by United Airlines between Denver and Philadelphia via Chicago. On July 19, 1989, the Douglas DC-10 (Registration N1819U) being operated for this flight suffered an uncontained failure of its number 2 engine (mounted in the tail), which destroyed all three of the aircraft’s hydraulic systems. With no controls working except the power levers for the two remaining engines, it broke up during an emergency landing on the runway at Sioux City, Iowa killing 110 of its 285 passengers and one of the 11 crew members. Owing to the skill of the crew and a DC-10 instructor pilot, 175 passengers and 10 crew members survived the crash, which is considered a textbook example of successful Crew Resource Management, due to the effective use of all the resources available aboard the plane for help during the emergency

A preliminary review of air traffic control communications revealed that the captain contacted the Lubbock Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT) at 0422, and reported that they were descending from an altitude of 10000 feet down to 8000 feet mean sea level (msl). A controller acknowledged the transmission and then provided the airport’s current weather information and a runway breaking-action advisory. New Poll Reveals Travelers Top Picks for Wi-Fi Service in Major US Airports

Fremont, CA (PRWEB) April 30, 2012

A new poll by business class flights specialist Lets Fly Cheaper (LFC) rates US airports on the accessibility, connection quality, and perceived value of wireless internet service within the airport. Business travelers rated Chicagos two airports the highest (OHare International) and lowest (Midway International), with a wide span of votes and traveler opinions in between.

LFC asked business traveler customers to name the airport with the best Wi-Fi service. Their picks, in order of votes received:

ORD OHare International Airport – 134 Votes

EWR Newark Liberty International Airport – 101 Votes

ATL Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport – 99 Votes

LGA LaGuardia Airport – 86 Votes

JFK John F. Kennedy International – 66 Votes

LAX Los Angeles International Airport – 58 Votes

CLT Charlotte/Douglas International Airport – 52 Votes

BWI Baltimore-Washington International Airport – 46 Votes

MDW Chicago Midway International Airport – 22 Votes

LFC explains the impetus behind their latest business traveler research. Flights arent the only critical connection business travelers make at the airport, said Ramon van Meer, Lets Fly Cheaper marketing director. They need to get and stay connected to their office, colleagues, customers and families while waiting for their flight. More than any other travelers, they simply cannot afford downtime. Time wasted searching for power stations or struggling with spotty internet access is potentially lost money.

LFC undertook the customer poll with the premise that airport Wi-Fi is not a convenience; its a business necessity. Given the importance of this service to our customers, we were surprised that high traffic airports like Los Angeles (LAX) and New Yorks JFK didnt score higher, said van Meer.

Only two of the top airports, the #2 winner, Newark (EWR) and Charlotte/Douglas (CLT) offer free Wi-Fi (paid is available in the US Airways Club at CLT). The other US airports on the list offer paid Wi-Fi through Boingo Wireless in the terminals and the major airline sky lounges. Our conclusion is that paid internet is better than most free offerings in airports. Free Wi-Fi tends to be very slow and is notorious for connectivity issues. Also, with free Wi-Fi, travelers need to be vigilant about the security of their laptop, commented van Meer.

In the LFC poll, voters also left comments supporting their picks, in some cases contradicting other voters opinions (and LFCs own conclusion about paid vs. free internet). Like voting for any favorite hot spot, voting for airport Wi-Fi hotspots is somewhat subjective, based on personal experience, noted van Meer.

(PRWEB) April 24, 2012

InsanelyCheapFlights has announced that it is offering an additional discount on last minute flight deals to destinations across the globe. Travelers looking for last minute flights to destinations like Las Vegas and New York can save up to $ 20 per booking through the website by using the promotion code offered on the homepage. The sale includes last minute tickets to thousands of destinations including most major U.S. cities, the Caribbean and Europe. The sale is scheduled to last through the end of April, and is good for travel dates through the end of the year.

The discount is good for flight bookings only, not already-discounted air and hotel travel packages. For business travelers, the sale also applies to business and first class tickets booked through the site. Flyers looking for cheap tickets can use the discount on red eye flights to save even more on their travel costs.

The site also recently began offering deals on activities at most destinations, many of which can also be booked with very little notice. Travelers to Las Vegas, for instance, can book cheap flights, a hotel room and car rental, as well as a club hopping pass or even a helicopter tour of the Grand Canyon, all at the last minute.

InsanelyCheapFlights was founded in 2009 with a focus on finding the cheapest flights available online. While many travel sites have shifted gears in recent years toward promoting hotel offerings, InsanelyCheapFlights has maintained its focus on cheap airline tickets. This approach has allowed the site to gain traction against larger, more established websites. The past three years of rapid growth has made the travel startup a real contender in the industry.

The flight sale is available as a promo code on the homepage that applies to flights booked on the website. The discount is valid on InsanelyCheapFlight.coms booking fees only.
