Isn’t there a transatlantic low cost airline yet?

I need very cheap flights from Milan Italy to Detroit USA.
Is there one or many low cost airlines that provide such trips?

Have you tried Virgin Airlines… but they don’t fly directly from Italy to Detroit.. you will have to fly domestic airlines in the U.S.

There are several low cost airlines that fly internationally. Try asking a travel agent to assist you if you are having trouble finding a seat on one

Sorry there are NO low cost transtatlantic carriers yet. With the implementation of the Open-Skies Agreement between the USA and the EU, this will most likely change. RyanAir is planning on launching the first no frills flights to the USA in the near future. As with most low-cost carriers, the flight will most likely use a lower cost airport for flights. So if you are planning on flying to Detroit, it is most likely that your flight will land in neighboring Windsor, Ontario, Canada if the airline strikes an agreement with the airport operator. Low cost airlines avoid major airports mainly because of the huge operating costs involved.

There are some low cost airlines flying transatlantic already, but not between Detroit and Milan. If you can get a cheap hop to JFK, then try to Milan.
Keep in mind that even at $99 each way, once taxes, security fees, airport fees are added in–even at the cheaper airports–you’re still looking at nearly $300 round trip. Currently, the cheapest transatlantic flights being offered are northeast USA to Germany with United and Lufthansa in the $350 range (total rt), and these are *not* low-cost airlines, but are able to compete at this price level in the off-season.
Re: Ryanair possibly going transatlantic, their flambouyant founder Michael O’Leery is prone to making statements full of hype (and other things), and he has recently backed off his idea of a transatlantic Ryanair-style airline. It might still happen, but I doubt for much if any less than $199rt+taxes, which like I stated, is already being offered from the “full fare” airlines.
From Canada, particularly Hamilton and Toronto–not too far from Detroit–low cost airline Globespan fly to the UK and Ireland, and sell-off specialist were offering springtime flights as low as $49 CDN+taxes this year on Air Transat and Thomas Cook flights.
These should help you get the best fare on DTW-MIL:
