i believe u may be able to catch a “hop” it is where a military spouse or member can fly on a military jet or cargo plane that is going to a particular destination for little or no cost. u can talk to an officer and ask him what options you have available.

Any immediate family member may claim lowest priority on a MAC flight for transportation outside of CONUS.
Have your husband check with his PO or travel office for details.
I think they do charge though, but it’s very inexpensive.

there are no discounts for family members save the ones you can find online on travelocity and the like.
you do NOT qualify to fly Space A because the originating flight is CONUS, and family members are not authorized to fly Space A CONUS unless their sponsor flies with them.

Have your husband contact the rec office on his base. Often times, they have access to less exspensive flights or can refer him on places to try. As a military spouse, you also have access to hops…or using military flights with open seats..to get to visit. Keep in mind, these seats are given out on a first come, first served basis and there is no garuntee you will get one out or one back. Everyone who has hopped will tell you to be sure you either have a lot of flexability in your travel or enough money in your account to buy a last minute ticket to fly home! You don’t mention when you are planning to visit, but summer is the height of PCS/transfer season for the military and because of that, getting hops to popular places like Hawaii can be really tough. You would also have to get to a military base that has flights going to your destination and that can be tricky depending on where you are.
Your best bet is to buy a ticket….it will garuntee you get there and home reasonably on time. Kayak.com lists all flights, from all the airports within a certain radius by price. I usually go there to see what they have listed and then go directly to the airlines to see if they can match or beat it. Summer is the most exspensive time of year (aside from holidays) to travel to some places, so be as flexable as you can with departure dates and times. Often, the cheapest flights will be the very first ones out in the AM (and we’re talking 700am departure) on Tuesdays or Wednesdays. Also, bing willing to take a layover (or two) can also lead to lower fares , but will greatly increase how long the trip will take…consider the hassle of missed connections and delays against saving another $50.
Finally, if there is a major hub close to you, look for the costs with it as the originating ariport. You may need to drive in the day before and crash in a hotel, but it can mean a signifigant drop in fare and the ability to fly nonstop. Good luck!

Most major airlines offer military discounts, but they don’t offer them on all flights. You have to actually call the air line and ask them for the military discounted tickets they have availible for the time frame you’re looking to leave. They aren’t always even the cheapest tickets the air lines offer though, but it never hurts to just call and ask.
